Volunteering in Nursing Program

A photo of Anonymous Anonymous
Hi, I am interested in nursing for 2019 and visited the McMaster fall preview yesterday where I attended an info session on nursing. They said that you are required to complete 32 hours of volunteering where you are given the location where you will complete this volunteering. Just wondering if this is at other nursing programs other than Mac or just at Mac?
Thanks!

Um, why do you even care? This is a trivial amount of time. You can't even spend four working days volunteering? And you could add the experience to your resume which is invaluable...stop b!tching.

Jesus, calm down. I’m asking because I would like to be able to choose where I volunteer and do it at a place I’m already volunteering at currently. Trust me I don’t mind volunteering. Maybe you need to do some volunteering to learn some better communication skills.

Actually I'm first year mac right now for nursing and what we are told is that so many people volunteer past the 32 hour point. For example, my placement requires a full year commitment. From what I know, mac is the only uni that does volunteer placement because they want to warm us up to the idea of constantly interacting with people in clinicals next year. We start clinical placement first term second year which is one of the earlier ones too. Volunteering is a very valuable experience it just might be hard to juggle because of the hectic nursing schedule. Feel free to ask more questions if you have any others :)
