Do Grade 11 Marks Count?

A photo of Anonymous Anonymous
Hi, I'm a 12th grader at a nonsemestered school. I want to apply to life science at UofT which means that they look at English + Calculus + top 4 grade 12 marks. I was told that they also look at your grade 11 final marks. Do they look at all 8 marks or just top 6 grade 11? Does grade 11 math automatically have to count for me? I got a 77 in grade 11 math so I'm hoping it does not count.

I'm pretty sure UofT won't look at grade 11 marks unless you're trying to apply for an early acceptance, in which case they will. If not, they'll look at your top 6 grade 12 marks.

You realize that this program has one of the highest dropout rates in Canada, right? They will literally accept anyone who meets the high 70s-low 80s cutoff. Once you get there and throw them the money, they'll boot you out if you're someone who should be there, to begin with. Getting in is the easy part.

P.S. Wtf are you going to do with a life sci degree if you can't even get 80s in high school math. You need to be somewhat decent at math to get into most healthcare professionals like medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and optometry. Hopefully you don't think you can cheat your way into medical school.

I'm getting a 92 in grade 12 functions so far so I think I should be alright. I just slacked off last year.

If they were going to be looking at your grade 11 marks it would have stated so in the admissions requirements. While you might be able to get early admissions based on some grade 11 marks, you will not be denied admissions due to low grade 11 marks. If your grade 11 marks aren't high enough they will defer you until they get more grade 12 marks and then reconsider your application. Regular admissions will only be looking at grade 12 marks. To my knowledge the only university in Canada that looks at grade 11 marks in determining regular admissions is UBC.
